Driven by her belief in the fundamental right to nutritious food for all, Maya channeled her creative energy and expertise into creating Flavors of Origin where she invites data-informed and socially conscious experts, to raise awareness on the power of food health.
As the event's founder and executive producer, Maya's vision is to not only to satisfy taste buds but also to nourish minds and souls.
The festival is a showcases the charitable work Higher Ground for Humanity does year-round to educate and empower underserved low-to-no income youth in Los Angeles with nutritional workshops.
Maya's transition from film producer to food justice advocate reflects her unwavering dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Through Flavors of Origin, Maya invites the community to join her in learning about diverse cultural recipes, promoting healthy eating habits, and fostering unity through music, art, and dance—a testament to her commitment to creating a brighter, more equitable future for all.

How we serve
In 2023, we brought the festival to a 603-public housing community
The first Flavors of Origin nutritional food festival was hosted at the Boys & Girls Club Mar Vista Garden Los Angeles alongside our community we raised $300 to sponsor a food health workshop where 26 youth in the Walking The Beat program engaged in learning about mindful eating practices to their lifestyles.
