A second generation Los Angeles native, Maya Emelle studied at the Art Institute of Hollywood earning her BS in Digital Cinema and Video Production. She began her career working on various commercials and music videos with various artist including Beyonce Knowles, eventually transitioning into live televised productions such as the Latin Grammy’s, iHeart Award Shows/ Concerts, and the Latin American Music Awards while working with CMS Productions. Maya has produced several independent feature films such as award-winning JINN which had its SXSW 2018 premiere, directed by Nijla Mu’min and released theatrically by Orion Classics in November of 2018;  SOLACE  which won the award for Best Ensemble at Los Angeles Film Festival, 2018 directed by Tchaiko Omawale; and WORKINGMAN directed by Bob Jury which had it's world premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February, 2019. In 2019, she joined the Home Box Office (HBO) working in scripted television supporting a VP of Production, working on shows such as: Ballers Season 5, Watchmen Season 1, Barry Season 3, and more. Emelle continues her independent work, and has since created Higherground Content a collective of directors, writers and artist dedicated to producing content that gives marginalized voices an inclusive distinguished presence in mainstream media.
